Tao Fong Shan Spirituality Ministry
As early as 20 years ago, the former director of Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre’s Graduate Diploma in Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction, Dr. P.C. Tam, Ekman, has started promoting experiential learning. Today, we adhere to his dream and have since laid the foundation of spiritual formation and spiritual direction.
We focus on cultivating spiritual directors
Today, many pastors and reverends choose and come from all over the world to study at the Centre for its experiential learning teaching philosophy. Unlike academic learning, experiential learning emphasizes the journey to faith through the heart around spirituality, meditation, contemplation, and creating deeper experience with God. Because we believe that spiritual formation is not something you can achieve by reading a few books, it can only achieve by submerging in the experience; it can be described as a man tangled with God and the world, to love, to grow, and to bear before God, those who respond with their heart in their practice are bound to achieve spiritual orientation and formation.
There comes spiritual direction after spiritual formation, which is the new ministry that Christianity is most in need of. The graduates of our graduate diploma are the spiritual directors (or spiritual companions), the wonderful relationship they experienced with God can infuse a life’s force of deeper love for the Lord into the churches.

As of today, we have nurtured countless pastors and lay leaders to become spiritual directors and companions, many of whom have since led devotions at Tao Fong Shan while continued to serve as pastors.
Spiritual Directors
Rev Dr Jonathan S.T. Chan
BSc, MDiv, PGDipSD, DMin
Rev Chan obtained his BSc (First Class Honors) from McGill University in Canada, and his MDiv (major in counseling) from China Graduate School of Theology. After that, he completed Postgraduate Diploma in Christian Spiritual Direction at Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre, and obtained his DMin in Spiritual Direction from Graduate Theological Foundation.
Rev Chan has pastored The Church of Christ in China for more than 20 years and served as the Chaplain and Lecturer of Bethel Bible Seminary. He is currently the director of Spirituality Division of Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre.
Dr. Chu Ho Lim
BTh, MDiv, PGDipSD, DMin
Pastor Chu obtained his BTh from Alliance Bible Seminary and his MDiv (major in Diakonia) from Lutheran Theological Seminary. After that, he completed Postgraduate Diploma in Christian Spiritual Direction at Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre and obtained his DMin in Spiritual Direction from Graduate Theological Foundation.
Pastor Chu has pastored the church, and has experienced serving drug rehabilitation and homeless people in evangelical institutions for years. He is a worship leader and trainer and is currently a spiritual director of Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre.
Reverend Dr. Philze Lau
DipCS, MDiv, PGDipSD, DMin
As a Chinese culture enthusiast, Rev. Philze graduated from Hong Kong Shue Yan University with a B.A. degree in Chinese language. He was then called to advocate spirituality ministry and later founded the Life Gospel with the help of a few experienced pastors, which is committed to promote spiritual intimacy with God to believers.
In 2000, Rev. Philze came to Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre to study for Dr. P.C. Tam, Ekman’s Graduate Diploma in Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction, followed by a master’s and doctorate in divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary.
